Wax Cartridges versus Wax Pots.
The advantages – pretty much a little less mess. Some would tell you no mess at all, but when dealing with wax there is always residue due to the nature of the product. You still have to clean the holder and the roller, however there is less chance of spillage and dripping.
Cleaning the wax pot is a bit more of a chore, however if you keep on top of it, it takes not even a minute between every other client.
With the cartridge system you don’t have to worry about spatulas. The wooden spatulas used with hot waxing are extremely cheap per treatment, we are talking maybe 1 to 2 cents.
If you were going to be doing mobile treatments the cartridge would certainly be the best way to go.
Also some may say the cartridge is more sanitary. Again this depends on the type of cartridge you use. There are still areas that will touch each client, so they will still have to be cleaned thoroughly between each client.
As far as the wax goes, as long as you adhere properly to spatula use, i.e. one per client, or now becoming more preferred one per dip, not re-dipping any spatula that has been anywhere near blood or any other contra-indications such as skin disorders etc., your pot wax will not get contaminated as long as it is at the correct temperature. Most Health Departments do not prefer one system over the other for any reason.
The Disadvantages – Cartridge systems are usually a lot more expensive to set up. They are quite easy to use but you will have to change your technique just a little if you have been using the pot and spatula method, it just takes a bit of practice.
Once you choose one brand you are then stuck with that particular wax. From my experience they are just different enough that you cannot mix and match different brands of wax, they will not fit in each other’s cartridges, so if you don’t like the wax or want to try something different your options are much more limited. When you use a wax pot it is very easy to change from one brand to another.
Overall your cost per treatment is going to be more, with the pot and spatula system, depending on the price per kilo of the wax you are using we have found that our cost per treatment is about 4%, I believe with cartridges it is more like 10 or 11% per treatment, but I am going by someone else’s figures as I have never done a test with a cartridge myself. Overall this is still a pretty small difference, so I think in the end it is just persona choice.

Australia’s Next Top Model wrong winner announced
One of the most dramatic stuff-ups in the history of Australian live television.
Just before 9.30 tonight, Sarah Murdoch announced the winner of “Australia’s Next Top Model”.
Unfortunately, she read out the wrong name.
While Kelsey Martinovich was celebrating winning a car, a New York modelling contract, a $25,000 ad campaign, $20,000 cash and the cover of a national magazine, Sarah Murdoch’s drop jopped, she brought her hand to her mouth, started tearing-up and was left speechless. The coin-drop moment for Sarah Murdoch is at the 2’32″ mark.
Of course there’s a happy ending for one southeast Queensland woman, Amanda Ware, who was then awarded (all together now) a car, a New York modelling contract, a $25,000 ad campaign, $20,000 cash and the cover of a national magazine!
But someone would have had their backside kicked after this. Watch carefully and you’ll see the magazine cover change (projected onto the set) before Sarah Murdoch reveals the mistake.
What with the federal election and the AFL Grand Final, Australia just can’t get clear results in anything this year!!
Foxtel announced late tonight that runner-up Kesley will now receive $25,000 and a trip to New York.
